TOBOGGAN RUN AT CRESTA VALLEY
Mount Buffalo National Park offers safe and accessible tobogganing and snow play areas set amidst the spectacular and unique granite landscape of Mount Buffalo plateau.
Tobogganing is great family fun but can be quite dangerous if care is not taken. For that reason tobogganing at Mount Buffalo is only permitted in the designated SAFE areas at Cresta Valley or Dingo Dell.
Where to go Tobogganing
Two specially designated tobogganing and snow play areas within Mount Buffalo National Park are
set-aside to provide visitors with the safest and most effective slopes to enjoy tobogganing and other snow play activities.
Only one location will be open For tobogganing and snow play on any given day.
Ask at the Mount Buffalo Entrance Station or visit www.ski.com.au for details.
The designated toboggan area is identified by signage and fencing. The fencing ensures safe speeds are maintained and hazards are minimised.
Please do not toboggan elsewhere within the park as there may be unmarked hazards and risks with no quickly available first aid assistance. For this reason all other park areas outside the designated site are closed to tobogganing.
Cresta Valley Toboggan area
Located at the southern end of the plateau, 34 km from Porepunkah, Cresta Valley at an altitude of
1500 metres has Mount Buffalos main toboggan slope located adjacent to the car park. This toboggan slope is regularly groomed, well signed and attended by first aid staff when open. During the early part of the snow season or in times of poor snow cover, the toboggan area may
be closed.
Dingo Dell Toboggan area
Located mid-way across the plateau, about 30 km from Porepunkah, Dingo Dell at 1400 metres also
has a toboggan slope as well as a snow tubing park. This toboggan and snow tubing area is only
available when there is adequate snow at Dingo Dell. Under these conditions a designated site will
be set aside by way of fencing and signage. Facilities at Dingo Dell include first aid, take away food and drink, a large eating area, toilets and change rooms. Temporary public toilets will be available within the car park. Visitors should not toboggan here when the Toboggan area is closed due to the risk of unmarked hazards and lack of first aid assistance along with closed visitor facilities.
Winter facilities
Cresta Valley lodge was destroyed by fire in December 2006. Temporary facilities have been erected including a heated public shelter and portable style toilets.
Dingo Dell will remain open throughout the snow season and facilities include a cafe, a heated public shelter and indoor toilets.
V
ehicle parking at Dingo Dell is available at the large car park on the Mount Buffalo Tourist Road. Follow the signs on foot to the toboggan run.
Vehicle access for disabled visitors can be organised by notifying the park office prior to your visit on 03 5755 1466.
